Triacca Dalla Mia Vigna "La Modonnina" Chianti Cassico Gran Selezione DOCG 2015 Review
There are two things going on here. This wine is solid and well structured with great oak exposure and a firm grip of tannin, while still keeping its balance. It's damn good. Thing is, although this is 100% Sangiovese, it lacks some of the inherent characteristics of the grape; they are there but softened by the oak. All this is fine if this is the direction Gran Selezione is going, the wine is excellent, but if this new designation is to preserve the legacy of Sangiovese, then a step has been missed. Either way, while Italy is figuring this new thing out, enjoy the hell out of this wine with a big meal, because that’s what it calls for.
